8th Grade DC Trip

Proposed Itinerary

Sunday,  June 4, 2023

Students will board buses headed for D.C. at MMHS. Upon arriving in D.C. students will visit Smithsonian Museums in late afternoon. Students will eat a buffet dinner and arrive at hotel at approximately 7pm. 

Monday, June 5, 2023

Students will eat breakfast and depart the hotel. Activities will include visiting Arlington National Cemetery, Iwo Jima Memorial, the Holocaust Museum, Ford’s Theatre, the Petersen House, and guided tour of the memorials including WWII, Vietnam, Lincoln, and Korean War Memorials in the evening. Lunch and dinner will be provided. Return to the hotel for the evening. 

Tuesday, June 6, 2023

Students will eat breakfast and depart the hotel. Activities will include visiting Mount Vernon, the National Museum of African American History, visit the Lafayette Park and view the White House, and participate in a guided tour of the following memorials FDR, the Jefferson, and Martin Luther King Jr. Lunch will be student’s choice with funds provided by tour group. Enjoy dinner on a cruise of the Potomac River with a DJ. Return to the hotel for the evening. 

Wednesday, June 7, 2023

Students will have breakfast and check out of their hotel. Activities will include visiting Capitol Building for professional group photo, walk by the Supreme Court, visit the Library of Congress. A box lunch will be provided and students will load the bus for the trip home. Students will have dinner along the way and arrive back at MMHS.

NEW INFO FOR 2024 TRIP COMING IN JULY

 

Trip deadline : March 1, 2023

Please make sure that you sign up for the trip by the deadline.  Contact Amanda Hough ahough@mpspk12.org or Rewa Melby rmelby@mpspk12.org with concerns.  

Trip Dates:  June 4-June 7th.

Students and chaperones leave from MMHS very early on Sunday June 4th and return very late on Wednesday, June 7th. It is our goal that every 8th grader is able to participate in this wonderful learning and team-building experience.  Memories from their 8th grade trip are often shared by senior speakers at their graduation.

T-shirt Contest 

Create a logo for the 8th Grade D.C. Trip.  The logo will be used for our communication moving forward and student/chaperone T-shirts!

Include the following: 1. D.C. 2023, 2. 8th Grade and the 3. Mashpee "M" logo.  Do not use copyrighted materials ( including images and logos).  A great site to use instead is Unsplash.com  Free Images for use . 

The Winning Logo will receive a $25.00 Gift Card to #WeAreMashpee Store. Submit Digital Designs by emailing them to: ahough@mpspk12.org or rmelby@mpspk12.org by 2/17/23.

  2. If needed submit y our Financial Aid Request Form to Ms. Melby in the Main Office
  3. Registration with ETA by March 1, 2023
  4. Save the date for the Mandatory parent/student meeting from 6:00-7:00 on Thursday, June 1, 2023
