Extra Curricular
We see the benefits of extra-curricular activities everyday
Whether it’s sports, theatre, music, robotics, or something else we encourage our students to participate in activities outside their academic coursework. Here are a few reasons why.
1. It builds confidence
The more students accomplish, the more confident they become. Extracurricular activities, are opportunities for students to work hard, have fun, and accomplish their goals. Allowing them to develop a strong foundation and build confidence.
2. It provides teamwork experiences
Whether playing a sport, participating in a club, or performing in a play, students will be working with their peers. Much of school coursework is an individual activity, compared to extracurricular activities. Group activities teach students how to work with different types of people, become a team player and adapting to new environments.
3. It improves time management skills
Middle-High school is a busy time. Out of necessity students will learn to manage their time effectively if they participate in extracurricular activities. Juggling several assignments and activities is a skill the will need to practice.
4. It develops networking skills
During practice, club meetings, or rehearsal students are interacting with their peers and making new friends with similar interests. Striking up conversation and finding common ground develops the networking skills which are the cornerstone of success in the professional world.
5. It provides leadership opportunities
Most extracurricular activities at MMHS provide an opportunity for a student to take on a leadership role. They will be given responsibilities and learn to communicate with their peers from a position of authority. This skill has future benefits as well as looking good on college and job applications.
6. It increases academic performance
If students take part in activities they are passionate about, they will improve their concentration and focus. A skill that will carry over into their academic life and improve their academic performance
Overall, extracurricular activities will help prepare your child for their future whether that is college, civic service or moving in to the job force. These activities will teach your student a host of skills, to help them navigate everyday challenges now and in the future.
