Program Description

In the Culinary Arts program we are focused on training food service employees to be leaders in the workforce.  The program provides a strong foundation for working in the Food Service industry. Mashpee is one of 33 schools in Massachusetts to offer the ProStart program. 

ProStart is a two-course program developed with industry professionals that include lessons in food and kitchen safety, advanced cooking techniques and food service management. For students who plan to study hospitality management in college, there are scholarship opportunities for completing the National Restaurant Association’s ProStart certification. This requires passing both ProStart classes and completing 150 working hours outside the classroom.  

Mashpee Middle High School also offers other culinary courses that focus on more basic aspects of cooking as part of its technical and professional offerings. And through out the year host guests at the Falcon Cafe, to showcase and practice their culinary and hospitality skills.

“It really gives a great foundation for juniors and seniors going into culinary or hospitality, afterward” said Sawyer, director of education at the Massachusetts Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. “They’re really prepared to start.”
